Definitely one of those things that can stop a preso dead in its tracks!

One shortcut that can really help is hidden in plain sight: That little box at the top left of the screenshots, the one with “filter text” in it.

Simply type in the word “font” in that box, and your nav choices will be filtered to solely General > Appearance > Colors and Fonts.

Similarly, typing “keys” for the filter shows only the Keystroke Editor; typing “debug” shows only the various debuggers, and so on.

The filtering capabilities are quite limited; no spelling suggestions here! Also, filtering doesn’t seem to work with spaces (I’ve tried various wildcards, without success), and only some of the preferences are searchable — the rest need some sort of search-term registration, I’d imagine.

Therefore, to find the setting for “Show line numbers”, type either “numbers” or “line” — and note that neither of those finds the CFEclipse line-numbers setting, just the General > Editors one.

This same filtering is available throughout Eclipse, and is generally just as obviously hidden.

I too, must chime in on this thread. I thank you for the short-cut to solving this issue. I can only hope that the Eclipse group will catch wind of this thread and take it as a sign that something as simple as changing the freakin’ font size can be confusing and time consuming. Who did the user acceptance testing on that _feature_???

Wow, this really is helpfull, only I used it to decrease the font size so I can use Eclipse on my Eee PC. The default font size is just to big at around 12pt, my setting of 6pt really works great.

Super man! Thanks! If you have some more tips like this don’t hesitate to post them, it really saved me lots of time. I tried to do this font changing some time ago and I couldn’t find it. Maybe in the future versions of eclipse would be good if they will do the Ctrl+ scroll or a toolbar with the window view (100% …) like in microsoft word, etc.

The method here doesn’t solve the problem of the tiny font in the Help files. The solution to that is to choose
Window -> Preferences -> Help
[ ] Use external browser
and then you not only have control of the type face but you can navigate Help when in a modal dialog box.

Even more thanks. I’m evaluating a switch from ZDE 5.5 to 6.1, which is built on Eclipse. Not being able to find something as simple as the global editor font size was really frustrating!

I managed to figure out how to change font sizes and found the plugin very useful,
but whatever I do the fontsize of my JUnit view is not affected.

Very annoying for presentations.

The font size of all the other windows apart from the editor is based on your system font size.

So if you want bigger JUnit fonts change your system font. It’s a real shame that Eclipse does handle font sizes better.

Thank you very much. I was getting ready for a class demo and remembered that the settings in Eclipse were often hard to find. Been there – wasted too much time. I also wanted line numbers (General / Editors / Text Editor) to be able to refer to parts. The Eclipse developers must have a manifesto somewhere saying the zoom function is evil and they intentionally left it out of Eclipse. Else there is no way to explanation why Eclipse is missing such fundamental functionality.

Note: Window=>Preferences => general=> appearance
There is a drop down menu called current theme
You can change the color pallette of the eclipse editor there easily
(Eg= known names as primitives, “null”, “this” … is basicly in violet. With system pallette, its black etc)
